THE SECRET TO DISTRESSING FURNITURE

Distressing or a weathered look in decorative arts is making a piece of furniture or object appear aged and older, giving it a weathered look. There are many ways to produce an appearance of old age and distressing is one of them.

The most simple and straightforward method to distress wood is to sand some of the paint off. This technique works great on both already painted wood and unpainted wood. The key is to sand random areas that tend to get bumped or scratched naturally like corners and edges so it looks organic. You can also repeat the process on the same piece with several layers of different coloured paint
