Whether your front door is drab or in need of a new paint job, it’s not hard to fix it up to up your curb appeal.
To get started you will need the following
- Primer
- Paint
- Brush
- Roller
- Painter’s tape
- Drop cloth
- Sandpaper
Step 1
If you’re not sure what colour you want to go with, paint a small number of multiple sample colours on the door to see what they’d look like. Be sure to pick a colour that looks good both inside (when the door is open) and outside—and don’t forget to check the colour under multiple types of light.
Step 2
Clean the door to ensure it’s free of debris. If there’s any old paint peeling off, use a scraper to remove it and sand it to smooth out the surface. After you’ve wiped everything down, make sure the door is completely dry.
Step 3
Remove hardware on the door and use painter’s tape to protect any features you don’t want to paint.
Step 4
Use a primer to hide the old paint on your door and make the new paint last. Let it dry for at least 24 hours.
Step 5
Paint along the edges of the door first using a paintbrush. Use the roller to fill in larger spaces.
Let the paint dry for 24 hours between each coat.
Reattach your hardware, and enjoy your door in its new state.
